The concept of automating content on sites has always fascinated me. As an ex artificial intelligence student, the prospect of generating content, putting it on a page and actually getting people to read it is very compelling to me.

In the fast paced world of web development, automated content means a lot of things, but it almost never means actual generating of original, high quality content by a computer. What it usually means is ‘generating’ content by mixing some existing sources, which is, of course, not really generating anything but more copying.

Still; it seems interesting to investigate if this really works and if there is any merit to it.

One of the most popular ways of using the generated content is by automatically generating Wordpress articles. Using this method, thousands of ‘parked domains’ are covered with apparently relevant content and, so I heard, were usually making the owners a lot of money.

Time to try this kind of things myself. My goals are quite ambitious when attempting this kind of project. I cut it in different parts which should have different outcome:

  • ‘generating’ content using standard tools available on the web
  • ‘generating’ content using tools writtten by myself
  • really generating original content from an English language generator I have been toying with

The first two are simply out of interest; I am curious if these kind of sites really work and if there actually is money to be made with these kind of sites. Especially the first option should be trivial to do and should take no time at all to set up.

There are many people who actually sell installation of WP blogs with ‘generated’ content, but none of them look very appealing to me. I found one which does using the standard tools and I’ll be trying that next to building some more advanced tools of my own.

When this kind of thing is working for me, I’ll make an ebook and a product out of it making it a viable option for everyone who wants to buy it.

I’ll keep the blog updated with this topic. Keep watching!
